Privacy Policy (Life-Sparring App)

Last Updated: October 1, 2025

1. Introduction

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in an open and transparent manner. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use and share it, and the rights you have in relation to your data when you use our mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

Our Service is designed to help you track, analyze, and improve your fitness and well-being. To do this effectively, we process information you provide, data we collect automatically, and data you authorize us to receive from third-party services like Garmin, Apple Health, and Google Fit.

By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect different types of information to provide and improve our Service to you.

a) Information You Provide Directly:

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect information such as your name, email address, password, date of birth, and gender.

  • Profile Information: You may choose to add more information to your profile, such as a profile picture, username, height, weight, and fitness goals.

  • Health and Activity Information: You can manually log activities, nutrition, sleep, and other health-related metrics directly into the app or import lab reports via OCR document scan.

b) Information from Third-Party Services:

To enhance your experience, you can choose to connect your account to third-party fitness trackers, apps, and services ("Third-Party Integrations").

  • Explicit Authorization: We will only access data from Third-Party Integrations with your explicit consent and authorization. You will be prompted by the third-party service (e.g., Garmin Connect, Apple HealthKit, Google Fit) to grant us permission.

  • Types of Data: Depending on the permissions you grant, we may collect the following types of data from these services:

    • Activity Data: Steps, distance, duration, calories burned, activity type (running, cycling, swimming, etc.).

    • Physiological Data: Heart rate (live and resting), heart rate variability (HRV), sleep stages (light, deep, REM), blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiration rate, stress levels, and VO2 Max.

    • Workout Data: GPS routes, elevation, pace, speed, power output, and cadence.

You can revoke our access to this data at any time through the settings in our app or through the settings of the third-party service.

c) Information We Collect Automatically:

  • Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with our Service, such as the features you use, the time and duration of your sessions, and your in-app actions.

  • Device and Technical Information: We collect data from the device you use to access our Service, including IP address, device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and crash data.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To Provide and Personalize the Service: To operate and maintain your account, display your activity and health statistics, track your progress towards your goals, and offer personalized insights and recommendations.

  • To Improve and Develop the Service: To analyze usage trends, troubleshoot issues, and develop new features and functionalities. We use aggregated and anonymized data for this purpose.

  • To Communicate With You: To send you service-related notifications, security alerts, updates, and respond to your support requests. We will only send you marketing communications with your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

  • For Safety and Security: To verify accounts, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.

  • For Aggregated Scientific Research: We believe in contributing to the broader understanding of health and fitness. We may use your data for scientific and statistical research purposes. For any such research, your data will be strictly aggregated and anonymized. This means all personal identifiers (like your name, email, and exact GPS locations of home/work) are removed, and your data is combined with data from many other users, making it impossible to identify you personally. This anonymized, aggregated data may be used by us or shared with third-party research partners (such as universities or research institutions) to study topics like population-level fitness trends, the effectiveness of different training methods, or the relationship between sleep and athletic performance.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (For EEA/UK Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom (UK), we process your personal data based on the following legal grounds under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Performance of a Contract: We process your data to provide the core functionalities of the Service that you signed up for.

  • Consent: We rely on your consent to process data from Third-Party Integrations and to send you marketing communications. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

  • Legitimate Interests: We process your data for our legitimate interests, such as improving our Service, ensuring security, and conducting scientific research with anonymized data, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.

  • Legal Obligation: We may process your data to comply with a legal requirement, such as a court order or law enforcement request.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share it in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We work with third-party companies that help us operate our Service (e.g., cloud hosting providers like AWS or Google Cloud, customer support platforms, and analytics services). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and can only use it to perform services on our behalf.

  • Third-Party Integrations: When you direct us to share your data with other services, such as posting a workout to a social media app.

  • Scientific Research Partners: As described in Section 3, we may share aggregated and anonymized data with research partners. This data does not contain any personal information.

  • Legal Requirements and Business Transfers: We may disclose your information if required by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal proceedings. We may also share it in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you before your personal data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have rights over your personal data, regardless of where you live.

a) Rights for All Users:

  • Access and Portability: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. In many cases, you can access and download this directly from your account settings.

  • Correction (Rectification): You can modify or update inaccurate personal information through your profile settings.

  • Deletion (Erasure): You can delete your account at any time through the app settings. This will permanently delete your personal data, except for anonymized data and information we are legally required to retain.

b) Specific Rights for EEA/UK Residents (GDPR):

In addition to the above, you have the right to:

  • Restrict Processing: You can ask us to stop processing your personal data in certain circumstances.

  • Object to Processing: You can object to our processing of your data where we are relying on legitimate interests as our legal basis.

  • Lodge a Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

  • Right to Delete: You have the right to request the deletion of your personal information.

  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: We do not "sell" your personal information in the traditional sense. However, under California law, some data sharing for analytics or advertising may be considered a "sale" or "sharing." You have the right to opt-out of this.

  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights.

To exercise any of these rights, please visit your account settings or contact us.

7. Data Security and Retention

  • Security: We implement robust technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption of data in transit (using TLS) and at rest, and strict access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

  • Retention: We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. We may retain certain information for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Aggregated and anonymized data may be retained indefinitely for research and analytical purposes.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to, and maintained on, computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ. If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, this means your data may be transferred to the United States. We ensure such transfers are lawful by using protective mechanisms like the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

9. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 16 (or a higher age if required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and/or by sending you an email or in-app notification. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
