Life-Sparring Podcast - Round 2: Show Notes

Synopsis:

Just as I did for Round 1, I managed to get a great guest for Round 2 of Life-Sparring. Eva Hilf is not just a battle-hardened veteran of consumer goods sales & marketing, she also experienced the transformative development of the fitness wearables industry first hand, as Commercial Director and now as Managing Director for the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region.

In our wide-ranging interview, we talk about Eva’s sales career, which started at Procter & Gamble, after Eva originally had planned to accept a job in the desert of Jordan. With Eva having worked in sales across a wide range of consumer goods and markets, and for companies, ranging from MNC to medium-sized, family-owned businesses, we try to distill Eva’s general principles and secrets of sales & marketing that work in all regions and settings.

Eva joined Polar in 2013, just when with the Basis B1 the first activity tracker with 24/7 wrist-based heart rate hit the market and the sports wearable industry was in the middle of a massive 3D-Transformation (Eva’s term). As a quantified self enthusiast, I enjoyed hearing Eva’s view on this crazy period and how she and Polar see the competitive environment for fitness-oriented wearables.

We end by looking a bit into the future of wearables and how Polar tries to position itself amidst the next phase of the wearable (r)evolution.

Hear Life-Sparring host Fabian Gruber punching above his weight, interviewing top experts in their respective fields, trying to fight (his own) mediocrity one round at a time.

The Life-Sparring podcast is hosted by Fabian Gruber and produced by Thomas Latter.
